Mind the Gap, Eliminate the Leaks, and Reduce Noise
Every automotive manufacturer wants to eliminate excess noise and leakage cause by ill-fitting gaps. The LMI Wireless Seal Gap system is a quick and easy solution to monitor seal margins between the door and frame of a vehicle. One of our major automotive customers cut per vehicle measurement time from 45 minutes down to 10 minutes by using a system of 10 Seal Gap gauges and a laptop running our UGI data collection software. That's a 75% time savings! The way it works is simple: the 10 gauges are attached around the door frame (using either strong magnets or clamps for aluminum bodies), then the auditor "flushes out" the door. The readings are displayed live in the UGI runtime screen before the auditor samples the data with a single keystroke. They then move the gauges to the next door and repeat the process. |
Not Just for Automotive
A Fortune 500 home appliance manufactuer had increased warranty costs associated with leaking dishwasher seals. This problem was not just leaking seals but damage the situation created for homeowners. LMI developed a custom measurement gauge from the LMI standard Seal Gap gauges that fits inside the dishwasher and measures the gap between the dishwasher body and door. This was simulating the seal distance. Six gauges placed around the door opening. All gauges were wireless because there was no room to bring cables in and out of the dishwasher. The gauges provided dynamic measurements with comparisons to the tolerances set up in data collection software. The user was able to immediately evaluate the fit of the door to the body. Measurement results were saved in a format that allowed the customer to analyze and predict trends while taking a proactive approach to the process, preventing future seal failures and warranty repairs. |
